Recounts

The students have been practising writing recounts to interest their readers. They were asked to write about an experience that brought about strong feelings for them e.g. fear, excitement, amusement. After writing a draft they had to spend time developing and improving their first effort. The three criteria we looked at were 1) Beginning the recount in a way that 'hooked' the readers' interest 2) Using interesting verbs (action words) and 3) Concluding the recount in an interesting or surprising way. DO NOT JUST RUSH THE ENDING!

I will post some where the writers put in a lot of effort. They looked at the criteria, tried to use it, asked for help if they felt they needed it and spent time going over their writing. Most of these recounts showed huge development from the start of the process to the finish. Some of these are not complete, but show a great deal of progress.

The students will be asked to read each others' and reflect on whether they make sense when read by someone who didn't do the writing. They will also be asked to assess whether they fit the three criteria.
